Did Capri 14.2 Mod 2 come from the factory with furling jib?

I'm considering one of two 1990 Mod 2 Capri 14.s's I found on craigslist. I haven't seen them in person yet as they're a couple of hours drive away. The first one claims a furling jib and the owner claims it came with the boat. I talked to the daughter of the owner of the second boat and she says her mom's boat does not have a furling jib. Both boats have factory sails shown in pictures, spread out on the ground, and the numbers on mains are within a couple of digits of each other. How do I explain this discrepancy? I know I can drive to each site, but they're not in the same direction and am trying to screen the choices and drive for inspection on only one of them.

Hi raduray,

I have a 1992 Mod 2,..... bought it from the original owner and it does not have a furling Jib, so the Furler was definitely an add on. I have investigated the cost of adding a furler and the unit itself is $200 + and the standard jib has to be modified or replaced with a furling jib.

I think it safe to say that most skippers would prefer to have the convenience of a Furling Jib so you be the judge on which one to see first. Hope this helps you make a better decision...... Good Luck!

The furling jib may have been installed as an option prior to the owner receiving the boat. The roller furler was an option on my model 3.

Well, I went and looked at both boats today. The first one, which was advertised as having a furling jib, showed a lot of wear and tear, but the other one was in pristine condition having been stored in a garage and rarely sailed AND it had, not only a furling jib but also slides for raising and lowering the sails. It was also the cheaper of the two boats, so I placed a deposit and will go back in a few more days and tow it back to my home lake. Yahoo! I'll be sure to have lots of questions in the days and weeks to come.
