Cap on top of mast of 14.2

We recently bought a 2005 14.2. The top of the mast does not have a cap or plug to help keep water out, as my previous Catalina did. Anyone know where I can find one? Not much luck yet with catalogs. BTW, I am also ordering a Hobie float. We sail on a high mountain lake in Colorado with squirrelly winds, so these are safety measures.

I have an Omega 14 which has sealed ends on the mast and also has styrofoam in mine. I dont know if the p.o. installed the foam or if the factory did. I sealed both ends of my boom also for extra flotation-if needed. The mast on your boat must be sealed by you. Most owners fill each end with lots of spray foam to both seal and add flotation to the mast. Many owners add the float and it has proven itself to be very effective. There are numerous posts in the archives on sealing the mast and installing the float. In the interim , you can install a small block at the top of your mast for a topping lift to hold the boom up. this will give you an easy way to hoist some jugs to the top of your mast to give you the flotation you need. So, get sailing this weekend and do not worry. Charley

Co4: Need to seal inside the mast with expandable foam below the halyard turning block to lower chance of turtling when capsizing. A cap above the block seems rather inconsequential especially if using the boat as a trailer boat mosst of the time. RK

My Capri 14.2 doesn't have a cap on top; I'm pretty sure none do. I have fitted her with a Baby Bob also; capsized once and didn't turtle.
