Shroud Diameter? and Masthead Fly?

One more question...

Well, two.

What is the diameter of the shrouds on the C14.2? I want to add shroud telltails, and it looks like they are diameter-specific.

Are you guys sailing with a mastead fly? Past rides' have had'm and I missed it on my first sail on the Capri.

My stock shrouds are 3/16 inch. I have a masthead float, to keep from turtling, so cannot use a Windex, I took a old cassette and use about two foot of tape tied to each shroud to detect wind direction. I have used the same old cassette for a long time, so the price is right, and I just replace the tape every time out.

I just received my new shrouds and forestay from Catalina Direct. The new ones are not covered with plastic and are 3/32". Catalina has changed to fork on the upper end, and retained the thimbled loop on the bottom.

The reason given from the change to uncovered wire has to do with being able to detect breaks and corrosion.

Thanks Ed,

I just installed new shrouds from Catalina Yachts. They have the plastic cover. But I wish they didn't. However, they are less than half the price of the ones from CD, and include the tangs (which fortunately were easy to remove).

In any case, I'll use the 3/16" measurement for the telltails.

I know that tape or yarn on the shrouds works well. But for $10 I'll give the fancy ones a try and will let you know if they're a waste of money or not.

Thanks for the help.
