Ladder

Hey, Its me again. The bride and I went sailing on a little lake today and so sailing is back in my blood again. Its probably been 4-5 years but back then I could not find a decent ladder for the back of this boat. Everything out there was too big, too heavy, too expensive, or just flat again the back of the boat and when climbing aboard from withing the water the bow would rise and the rear of the boat goes down and so it was like climbing at a crazy angle.
I made this ladder out of old aluminum electrical conduit and a tig welder. It angles out from the back of the boat to offset any angle when I step on the ladder from within the water. It works good on land and in the water. I am 210 pounds and it holds me fine with the boat on the trailer. I made the ladder to fit the port side of the boat and I have a little antique outboard that I use on the starboard. When the ladder is folded up it forms a triangle and clears the water when sailing (held up with two of the small bungi cords). I call it my Triangle-Ladder.
Lots of trial and error in this one. Maybe it will give ideas to someone else. Kim

I like it, what holds it to the boat? It looks like there are no bolts or anything to secure it to the transom, that lower support could not be through bolted because it is beneath the seat.

Just an absolute brilliant, functional work of art ;) and nice angle for getting up and over the transom as well. If it's not too much trouble; I would be interested in knowing what it weighs?

See that top is just as far down on the inside as the outside, so it fits snug on the stern and the bottom piece has rubber on it so it don't scratch the gelcoat. The only way that ladder can come off is by sliding up and if you look careful you can see a small plastic screw in that top peice that goes in almost against the hull but not quite. I put this screw in there to keep the ladder from ever coming off in a roll over (the lip of the stern will catch it). To remove it I just back out that plastic screw about an inch or so and lift the ladder off. I store the ladder indoors with the motor.
