After putting sailing on the back burner for a number of years, I just picked up a Capri 14.2. I'm looking forward to learning to sail with it.

This will be something for my wife and I to do together, hopefully for years to come.

I'll be browsing the forum, and expect I will be posting a number of questions.

I looked at local sailing schools, but the prices (for both the spousal unit and me) range from $800 to $1100 for a two day course. For now I'm hitting the books, and will see if I can tap into any local experience.

Eventually we may want to try out hand at cruising with a bigger boat, but I think this 14.2 will be good for learning and building experience/

Welcome

I've only been here a short time myself.

You may try the sailing clubs at the local lakes. They sometimes have free/cheap sailing classes every year. It's a way for them to increase membership and a way for you guys to meet other sailors, race, etc.

I'm pretty new at sailing myself. Got my first season under my belt this year. Last year I took an ASA 101 class, I believe it was 16 hrs of instruction time with most of it being on the water. The book the course used was called "Sailing Fundamentals" by Gary Jobson. The book is good, but my suggestion is to drop the coin when you are able and take a good class. Without that classroom time on the water I'm not sure how I would have ever got my own boat figured out.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I found a 4 day course at a local college for around $200.00. It was 2 evenings in the classroom and 2 full Saturdays on the water. They managed to cover enough to feel confident in most situations.

This is a fund raiser for their sailing team so check the schools with teams.
