Outboard question

I am in the market to buy a Honda 2 stroke.
So, when I go out to some of the bigger lakes, I am not stuck in light winds.
I am planning on storing it in my bow. I have a mod 3 boat and it seems pretty water tight. I have capsized a few times now but have never turtled. I am curious how others secure the motor inside the bow? I don't want it banging around.
Do others find their mod 3 boats dry after a capsize? So, far I have not had water intrude the cubby.

I just don't want to spend a grand on a motor and swamp it.

Hi Bill ...

I'm concerned about the same thing ... I'm going electric on my wakeless lake and about to purchase a golfcart 18 hole battery and am concerned about protecting my investment.

Bill, did you actually mean "2 stroke" or "2 hp? ....if it is the "2hp, 4 stroke" you may have some trouble if it's stored on it's side for any length of time, apparently the crankcase oil seeps into the combustion chamber and makes a mess of everything. Fouled spark-plug, oil clogged exhaust, hydraulic lock all of which are no start conditions.

I have a 4hp, 2 stroke Suzuki OB mounted on the transom of my mod 2. I capsized last week and had no trouble starting afterwards, mind you, I'm not sure if it did get swamped during the capsize. In any case, with respect to storing, you may already know ...the 2 stroke eng does not have an oil sump so there's no oil to leak into the combustion chamber.

JH, I also had concerns about capsizing with huge lead acid batteries, I have resolved to use my electric only for motoring up and down my river, no sailing!

I run with a Minn Kota 34 lb thrust electric. I mounted the battery in the front of my model 1. It is in a marine battery box and firmly strapped down to some boards I anchored in the cubby. I ran the wires under the starboard seats to a socket mounted in the back. I have no fear of the battery coming loose during any excitement.
