Painting New Hull Stripes

I'm in the process of repainting the hull of my Mod 1. Does anyone have recommendations on how to paint new stripes on the hull and keep them looking straight? The trick is they need to look straight when the boat is in the water (or viewed from the side) but that means they follow the curve of the boat and are, in fact, not straight when viewed from from the bottom (as it currently sits upside-down in the garage). I've sanded the entire hull but haven't painted over the old stripes quite yet so there's a chance I could maybe somehow use them as a guide.

Are you painting or doing new gelcoat? Either way, I have had C14.2s without the waterline and they look great. My answer is don't repaint them as its too hard to get them back on right. My 2 cents....

Just painting (after a couple small epoxy fixes). Your suggestion to leave the waterline stripe alone sounds like it might be best.
