Centerboard Well Niagara Floods Cockpit

Water shoots up and out of my centerboard trunk flooding my cockpit when I'm sailing at a good clip on a Starboard Tack, coming in faster than the bailing holes can drain. I assume the nylon centerboard gasket needs replacement -- especially since this problem only began this year. The boat is a 1998. I have no problen on a port tack. Has anyone experienced this problem? Am I right to assume the gasket needs replacement? If so, where can I get one? Any feedback is appreciated!

I'm guessing your gasket is OK. Look under the boat and see if it looks OK. If so, the problem may be with the board. Some boats built in 1998 had the wrong boards installed. They are too skinny and may "lean" sideways going upwind, opening up the gasket and allowing water to sluice up in the boat.

To check this, sail downwind (no load on the board). Grab the top of the board and see if you can shake it sideways. If it's not real snug, you most likely have a skinny board. Call Catalina at 818-884-770 and ask for Robt. Butler in Parts. Ask him if they will sell you a new board at cost (a BIG discount). He should agree to this, as he always has so far.

centerboard needs replacing

i have an old 1975 capri omega 14. something and it came with a mahagony centerboard that is cracked and with the tailing edge broken off. it looks like a fairly easy replacement but where do i get a board? it also has no control for the centerboard in the way of raising and lowering it. i also of course need to replace the gaskets. i tried to go to the link that points to the article on how to do this but the link did not go through. i am guessing that there is a huge data base for this. i am looking for a centerboard replacement kit or something i guess. thanks for your help

Participant of this thread, I own a mod 3 year 2000 C14 and I'm facing the same problem of water gushing through CB slot. I plan to replace the gasket and I also have the thinner CB. do you have a clearer view on the real reason behind this; gasket or thin CB? I live in Egypt and getting a new centerboard I don't think is an option for me.

Appreciate any help.
