Help with boom

I have seen on the forum a while back a notice of a line that holds up the boom. Can someone tell me were on the mast does it attach and how, and where on the boom does it attach and how. Finally, is it a wire line or rope line. The boom in the cockpit when the sails are down is getting old.

Hello Drew!
What you are talking about is called a topping lift. This is a small rope line that is attached to the top of the mast and goes through a cheek block mounted to one side (aft) of the boom and then cleated about midway down the boom. It works ok, but I would suggest that you install a boom kicker. I just did and it is GREAT! You'll never have to worry about the boom bouncing off the top of your head again! :D Do a search on this forum for"boom kicker or go to http://www.capri14.org/forum/showthread.php?t=498&highlight=Boom+Kicker. There is plenty of info there. Good luck!

Drew,
The Boomkicker is coll and easier to install than a topping lift I would think.
