Rigging

I've got a rigging question for a 1986 Catalina Capri 14.2.

There are 4 wires attached to the mast.

One goes to the front of the boat and is used for the jib. This wire goes up the mast about 3/4 of the way and attaches on the front of the mast.

Two wires go down through the spreaders and connect to the sides of the boat

And then I have 1 wire that is thinner than the others and goes all the way to the top of the mast. What is this wire for? I've attached it to the end of the boom so that the boom is suspended while the sails are down. Is this the proper use for this wire or does it also act as a forestay? I checked the Manual but I don't see any clear depiction of the rigging.

Thanks,

-Keith

Keith:

The three "wire" (forestay and shrouds) are your standing rigging. A fourth may have been installed to hold the boom up (topping lift) while dropping the mainsail it can also be used to hold the boom up while not sailing.

Good luck,

John

Keith,
I concur with the others and am sure it's a topping lift for the boom. I added one myself right after I bought my Capri and it's wonderful to have it stay in place with the sail down.

Enjoy,
Dean
