Non-Skid ideas and non-skid areas

Hello - I am nearing the completion of the fiberglass reinforcing and fairing work on my 74' laser. I am gettign near the time to start painting and will begin with primer. I chose the Rustoleum Marine Topside paint for it's great review on iBoats. Hopefully it will work well.

Anyhow, the previous owner sanded the entire deck of the boat and the only non-skid left is on the floor of the cockpit. From looking at other pics of the Lasers here, it looks like 95% of the deck has the non-skid weave pattern. Is this right? I know it will be really critical to treat the areas on either side of the cockpit since this is where you'll sit, but the fore and aft deck make me wonder if it needs non-skid.

Also - I have determined that there are two types of meanings for non-skid. One is for the area where you sit, where you'll want SOME traction, but as I have read here the typical sand in the paint non-skid in this location will chew up your shorts.

I have also learned about kiwi grip, awlgrip, etc. What are some other ideas for adding non-skid to the seating areas where you'll want a bit of freeplay to move fore and aft?

Thanks!

For the record, I did a search of titles and only three threads came up. I hope this has not been covered before and I missued it.

Don't think it's come up much if any here before.. After sailing a Sunfish and other small one-design boats for years, I have to agree with Paxfish. If I were in your situation, I don't think I'd worry about non-skid and would not add it the paint, even in the side decks where you sit. Instead I would sail it a few times and then decide if there is enough friction between the paint and your choice of clothes. If not, then you can add "external" non-skid, like what used to be done with Sunfish ( strips of no-slip that you use in the bottom of the bathtub) I would start with smaller strips.. IMHO, most of the non-skid stuff you see sold at marine stores such as this http://www.apsltd.com/c-4505-non-skid.aspx is what you need/want for under your feet, but not under your seat. :)

Funny thing about the non-skid pattern in the laser deck is that a majority of the people I race with, myself included, end up wearing shorts that are somewhat slippery over hiking pants (lycra) as the deck pattern is too "grippy" (besides the fact it chews up wetsuit bottoms).

FWIW, Awlgrip is a high end ($$) 2 part polyurethane paint, super glossy.. nothing like Kiwi Grip
