Tangled in mainsheet while tacking

While tacking I often get tangled up in the mainsheet. Sometimes it's around my feet or legs (especially when wearing boots), sometimes I end up sitting on a portion of the mainsheet making it difficult to sheet in. I am wondering if folks organize the excess mainsheet in a particular way (i.e. in front of the front leg, between the legs, in back of the rear leg)? Also, during a tack do you step over the sheet with one or both legs?

I kick the sheet forwards when ever Im hikeing so that all the excess is in front of my legs and I wont get tangled but its easily reachable.

When on a tack cleat the sheet and sort it out with your free hand and feet. I used to know a guy that would have a neat coil by the time he reached the windward mark, ensuring a smooth ease of the sheet downwind. I normally just kick the mess into a corner and hope for the best.
