Replacement Trailer Tires for an '85 Cox Trailer?

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this thread. I came into an older Sunfish + Trailer last fall. The price was nice (free), but I've had to do a little work on the boat and trailer.

I was preparing to transport the boat on its trailer down to Cape Cod and the tires on the trailer are totally shot.

The trailer is a 1985(ish) Cox Trailer. I've called around to some of the tire dealers like NTB, but they don't carry the small trailer tires. Any ideas on where I might go (ideally in Metro-Boston) to purchase and mount two new tires?

Have a great day!

I believe Townfair Tire carries small trailer tires. West Marine and other boating stores carry them as well.

You can also try Walmart. They sell trailer tires that are already mounted on a rim. The small tires (4.80x8) are about $30-$40. Look it up on their website.

Like Judkei, I was going to suggest to buy a tire/wheel combination. Should save you some trouble and shouldn't be (much) more expensive.

agreed on Walmart - just picked up a spare tire on rim there myself (on clearance, too!). look at the old tires - note the size and load rating. also make sure to get the right lug pattern (4 or 5 lugs).
