    Moth Boat

Hi Nikobrogna Thanks for the Picture of your Moth. Really looks like a challange to sail. Is it much harder than Hobie 16 , or simular to sail?

I want a small two person craft!

Hi Chinbeard I Owned a snark and it is about the best small cartopable boat that I know of. if you get the basic or sunflower which is about 50 lbs. It is a basic fun boat and can be loaded on a PT Cruiser, as I had one also and hauled two 50 lb Kayaks on it at one time. I used a Thule rack. If...

    Moth Boat

Hi Sailors Just wondering if any of you heard of a Moth boat. My Wifes Aunt said she used to build them in New Jersey, in the 1940's. I researched them and they were built in the 1930's. As soon as I saw them they looked almost like a Sunfish, I was wondering if the Sunfish was originally...

    Mast Cleat. Horn or Clam?

Red I agree use a Horn cleat, It will not slip, I purchased mine at West Marine. It is A 4" heavy plastic or ABS type material. I drilled and tapped it and used stainless bolts and a little sicilicone. Looks and works great.

    Lifejackets Required?

Hi Foxy I do agree about what you are saying about the liability end of it . It is a catch 22 situation. I also ride motorcycles and have been for years, some states require Helmets and the state of Florida does not. I have always worn a good helmet required or not. I have seen many a deceased...

    Anyone in Tampa?

Back at ya scuba There is a slope along the parking area, I have launched a 15 foot Precision many times using a PT cruiser it weighed about 400 lbs plus trailer. I now have the fish to bring it in easier when the tide rolls out at only 120 or so lbs. It looks worse then it is. Back down a...

    Lifejackets Required?

I've been sailing about 25 years, from Hobies, to racing 22 catalinas up to 25' O'Day, and now a sunfish, and as mentioned if you get hit in the head and knocked out while overboard it will save your life. They make a pfd that is approved called Sospenders that will inflat when you hit the water...

    Anyone in Tampa?

You can launch at Howard Park right at the beginnig of the causeway on the left side just before the jet ski launches or parking. Just back the trailer right before ski's. You can sail right across to Anchloe key where the lighthouse is located.

    Anyone in Tampa?

Try Duneden Causeway that heads into Honeymoon Island. I also sail Howard park and really enjoy it. A lot of sailers sail Duneden, fish, cats etc.

Is there a bearing buddy for older "crown nut and cotterpin" trailer bearing set?

I agree that if you do not dip the trailer you will be in much better shape, not only with the bearings but the tail lights, springs and trailer in general. Especially with these small boats. Get someone to help you lift it off or back it down and pull it off. Make sure you have a roller on the...

    Trolling-Motor-Powered Sunfish

I've seen trolling electric motors used on Canoes mounted from a board along the side of the boat , but I agree with Mike, it would probably die on you at that distance. I would try two piece Kayak paddles or snorkel fins and lay over the stern like a surf board? I haven't tried it but been...

    Removing Sail From Spars

Hi James I bought my Fish a few Months ago and it came with rings and Ties. My Dealer advised me to go with the Ties which I did and am happy with the sailing performance so far. Does anyone out there have any preferance between the two ways of fastening the sail?

    Is it just me?

I am a new Sunfish Sailer also, my boat came with the strap, Like mentioned by someone earlier it should only be high enough to slip your feet under it easily and get out easily. I use it all the time, if you want some speed and action you have to hang out.
