You're past this but a very easy way to leak test is use a shop vac on exhaust. To avoid too much air is easy. Use about two feet of medium size vinyl tube. Stick the tube up the vacuum hose a foot or so and loosely tape it with duct tape so the hose leaks. Now stick the vinyl tube in the drain...
