    Laser care

I left mine out and a furry critter destroyed the opening trying to make it bigger to get a new home. After replacing the whole plug I now leave it in,

    Painting Ideas?

Thanks :) Sprayed 3 coats and 1 Qt just made it with roughly 10% thinning.

    Painting Ideas?

I used some one part Interlux from West Marine. 2nd season with it now and other than a few scrapes it still looks great.

    Leak

Fill the mast step with water and see if it drains out. If it does you have a mast base that needs repair. Hull/Deck joint is another area prone to cracks and causing leaks. For that little amount of water I'd rebed all the hardware to the rudder and deck fittings. It may be a leaky drain plug...

    technology for sailors

2 HUGE selling points of this over any of the Apple or other products is... 1- If I found the right price and converted it, it's only about 360 USD vs close to double that I believe for the Apple. 2- Waterproof without a bag or box, which I believe is a must for any watch you use on the water...

    Hull finish

You can take a look in the thread I started last fall with mine. Shows the step repair and a few others had some great info added as well. http://www.sailingforums.com/threads/new-to-forum-and-new-to-me-laser.31217/ I will say I'm a bit jealous if your getting ready to rig up. My Laser is...

    Hull finish

I did the mast step reinforcement and reefed out a good 1/2 of the hull deck joint that was separated and leaking. The boat leaked pretty bad when I got it so I rebed all the fittings including the bailer and did the above repairs using West System Epoxy and filler. Painting the hull was an...

    Hull finish

I used Interlux Topside paint on mine, just did it mid last season and it's holding up great so far. Barely made it with 1 Qt spraying it.

Photos Of Mast Tube/Deck Reinforcement & Backing Blocks

Nice work. What was the mast to hull joint like while your in there? I'd seriously consider reinforcing that as well before you glass the deck back together.

New to Forum and new to me Laser

Thanks for the info and pics. I would love to see the vang setup you made. I hadn't thought about adding a knot to the traveler as I do have an issue with the sheet hanging up esp in higher winds. I've thought about shaping a piece of foam insulation and glassing it into the corners to eliminate...

I remember seeing a post on this forum that up to 5" was allowed, glad to know it is in fact 6". As to inspection ports being illegal...that would mean that you could not repair a leaking boat or mast step rendering a perfectly sound boat (like mine) to the scrap yard. My boat used to get at...

    Laser-tastrophe

I have a mid 80's and it had a few leaks. Repaired the mast step, rebeded all the fittings and fixed a couple of spots where the deck/hull joint was separating. Out sailing all weekend and just pulled the plug to no water. If you have the time and a bit of knowledge in fiberglass repairs I'd say...

    Laser-tastrophe

Looks like the lower mast step let go and caused the falling mast to take the deck with it. Yes it can be repaired but depending on how well you can do fiberglass repairs or have to take it to a shop will weigh on how much it's going to cost you. Having to repair the deck as well as the lower...

    Laser sail number

Found this on the forums here in a post from 2010..... 1. Sail Number: Check the transom of your boat for the serial number, it'll look something like this: a. PFS 80000 L879 or SLI F1234 F494 or PSC D4444 L586 b. On older Lasers the last four digits of the serial number may be missing. c. On...

Thanks and it's only a 6" port...I know it's not class legal but it was bad enough trying to do it in that size, 5 would have been rough. Wavedancer... All depends if you live in New England or not LOL.
