Because I’m always looking for this information, I’m making a post for it.
Outhaul: 3/16” (5mm) x 8’
Traveler lines (2 needed): 1/4” (6mm) x 5’
Cunningham: 3/16” (5mm) x 11’-6”
Mainsheet: 3/8” (10mm) x 25’
Vang: 5/16” (8mm) x 10’
Halyard: 3/16” (5mm) x 40’ (or your preference)
It’s raining again, so I pulled them out today.
On my SS sail (labeled as 6.3w), the three batten lengths are (top to bottom):
19.5”
34.0”
30.5”
battens are 5/8” wide.
I also have a Neil Pryde sail, labeled as 4.5w, with different battens. See pic for lengths.
Full mast length is 19’-6”. Mast pocket is +/- 10” deep, so 18’-8” exposed. I doubled that and added 2’, for a 40’ halyard. Line thickness should be 3/16”.
You can go shorter but that's a rough guideline. Also attached a pic of the halyard clip at the top with a tape measure for scale.
Haven’t...
One of my sunfish was impossible to lift when i first picked it up. It's been out of the water for two summers now draining and drying. Next summer's project is to put in inspection ports, find all the topside leaks and repair the 6-8" crack in the keel.
So far, this has worked great getting in and out of the lake, over the rocks. Took each of the kids out sailing this weekend on my '76, and my older two will probably solo this week. Pretty cool. Hope to start patching up the keel on the '79 and get that in the water this summer as well.
I've looked at yours, tag. It's a very nice design, but I was a little concerned about how it would hold up as a temporary rack on the beach so I went with the wood. I guess it would be fine either way though. Maybe when i get the other 'fish seaworthy I'll try yours and see how they compare!
I know this is an old thread, but I have been searching for a decent dolly for use on the shore of the lake we sail on and wanted to share.
I drew up a rough model in sketchup and came up with a material list.
(2) wheels (George uses a 6" wide, approximately 15" across) of your liking, with...
Thanks Tag. The shifting of the wheels towards the back did exactly what you stated - it brought the somewhat shaky center of gravity towards the tongue of the trailer. Also by flipping the bunks around the noses of the boats were lower in the front which helped the loading. If I was going to do...
Douglas Zargham made an excellent video if a similar repair that he successfully completed. I think if you have a hull that you can make a mold of for the missing area, even if it is over sized, you can use his post and video to complete a keel repair.
Be aware that you'll be into it for a...
Update:
Got both fish trailered 300 miles north to Lake Champlain before the hurricane. I borrowed a jetski trailer and made some adjustments to it. I slid the wheels as far back as possible and moved the bunks out as far as I could to the sides. I also flipped them around so they sloped...
Douglas - fantastic video. I have a couple of questions before I attempt the same repair.
1 - dumb question, visqueen is just polyethylene plastic, right?
2 - which fairing filler did you use, 404 or 407?
3 - what has your luck been with the behr garage floor paint as bottom paint?
You made it...
Question on the super sunfish rig, if anyone can help.
I need a new halyard line, a new mainsheet line and a new line for the vang setup.
The rigging instructions on the sunfish sailor group (great resource, btw) give lengths and diameters for all the lines except for these three. Any...
Update:
I got the '76 home and there is about an 8" crack in the keel that will require some fiberglass work to repair, but the rest of the hull is intact. I'm sure there will be inspection ports installed and the foam inside needs to be dried out (had to empty a ton of water out).
Oh well...
