Furling Jib control line friction-How do you add deck hardware?

@jdbeckerie, sorry I didn't respond earlier. Just saw this. Glad you figured it out.

    "Topping Lift"

My 14.2, which I purchased used, came with a topping lift. There's a pulley at the end of the boom and a cleat partway down the boom. It works really well. I leave the line somewhat loose when the sail is up. The line to the top of the mast is also useful when rigging the boat - I use it...

Furling Jib control line friction-How do you add deck hardware?

I bought the boat used and it came this way. I'm attaching a picture.

Furling Jib control line friction-How do you add deck hardware?

As I live on a lake and the boat is parked at my dock, I only have to rig the boat once a year, in the spring. That being said, It's really no hassle to thread the furling line through the shackle. In the total scheme of rigging a boat, this is truly an insignificant task. Regarding the...

Furling Jib control line friction-How do you add deck hardware?

So I figured out an inexpensive solution that does not require mounting new deck hardware. I got a 1/4" Stainless Steel Anchor Shackle from Home Depot for less than $4 and attached it to the rear hole of the stem fitting. Works great!

Furling Jib control line friction-How do you add deck hardware?

Any thoughts on this guy: http://www.murrays.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=25-1066&Category_Code=C-MO-RF&Store_Code=MS $20 including shipping. It does look as a kluge, though.

Furling Jib control line friction-How do you add deck hardware?

My recently purchased 14.2 has a furling jib. The furling line from the drum runs to a small cam cleat mounted next to the mast on top of the cuddy. This configuration causes the line to come into contact with the top of the drum (which is angled along the axis of the jib) resulting in...

Ed, I'm considering your recommendation on replacing the lines on my newly acquired used 14.2...

Ed, I'm considering your recommendation on replacing the lines on my newly acquired used 14.2 and would like to verify your selection of the 8m (5/16) New Swift for the main sheet. Did you really mean 5/16 or should it be 3/8? Note that APS does not seem to list the New Swift 5/16. Also, why...

Help for uprighting a capsized Catalina 14

Yesterday, on the first sail (solo) of my new 14.2, I caught a gust and capsized. I was unable to pull myself up to the center board, but thankfully, a motor boater stopped by to help upright it. Once the boat was righted, I tried getting up using the home made loop step hanging off the top of...

Newbie question - can I step mast with boat in water dockside

I had to modify Kent's method as I have a furling jib, so I used the main halyard. Honed the process in the driveway and then we launched the boat yesterday evening and stepped the mast dockside. I did one other thing as I was paranoid about pulling the mast too far and having it fall forward...

    Check your hardward and rigging

I just purchased a new Capri 14.2 and this is good advice. Quick follow-up question: How do you attach new hardware (blocks, padeyes, etc) to the mast and boom? Do you drill a pilot hole and then use a self tapping stainless steel screw? Do you use loctite? Red (permanent) or blue (not...

Help for uprighting a capsized Catalina 14

Maybe this is a stupid newbie question, but why not lower the main before righting the boat?

Did Capri 14.2 Mod 2 come from the factory with furling jib?

Well, I went and looked at both boats today. The first one, which was advertised as having a furling jib, showed a lot of wear and tear, but the other one was in pristine condition having been stored in a garage and rarely sailed AND it had, not only a furling jib but also slides for raising...

Did Capri 14.2 Mod 2 come from the factory with furling jib?

I'm considering one of two 1990 Mod 2 Capri 14.s's I found on craigslist. I haven't seen them in person yet as they're a couple of hours drive away. The first one claims a furling jib and the owner claims it came with the boat. I talked to the daughter of the owner of the second boat and she...

Newbie question - can I step mast with boat in water dockside

Hi all, I've sailed on and off for years, but not for the past few years. I'm newly retired and live on a lake and am considering purchasing a 1990 Mod 2 Capri 14.2 I found on craigslist. If I go through with this I'm sure I'll have lots more questions, but there's an immediate critical...
