Whatever boat you choose, think about your ability to right it after capsize and, equally important, your ability to reboard it from the water. The laser is easy to right, and easier than most to reboard (at least, the first couple of times in one day.) There are definately times, though...
Since Laser sailing is WET sailing, is there a magic number for water tempurture when one should consider packing up your lasers 'til next season? Maybe I'm being a woos, but reading how quickly hypothermia affects you at different temps, I thought I'd get your input. I've read the threads on...
In the water....little hawk......From my desk.......the RUSS (remote underwater sampling station.) It's in the middle of our lake and its' results are updated on the web every 10 minutes. It gives wind speed, direction, water and air temp. It's great to have when deciding whether to go out...
I'm curious about the above comment. What's the difference between sailing close to shore -vs- middle of the lake ? As a beginner, I tend stay maybe 100-300 ft from shore.
Is it possible to re-attach the boom while still under sail? I must not have tighted the boom vang or the outhaul enough and it came crashing down into the cockpit after a couple hours of sailing. When I couldn't coordinate controling the tiller and reattaching the boom at the same time, I let...
I don't see too much of a price difference between a seitech & a spootride.
Just an FYI - If anyone was thinking of using their trailer and a trailer dolly to launch/retrieve (like I did because I was too cheap to buy a seitech)...It was pretty effortless until the time came to pull...
You're probably right. I ordered a $100 trailer dolly to get me thru the rest of the season. If that doesn't help, I'll go w/ the seitech (and hiss about the money I wasted by not getting it in the first place.)
When using the seitech dolly can one person transfer the hull from the dolly to...
I've found a spot on the lake during the remainder of the sailing season, but need a dolly that allows a one person launch/retrieval on an incline. Does anyone know of one that's both inexpensive and easy to use? Not interestested in building my own, but don't want to pay the seitech price...
The rubber flex where my extension meets the tiller is cracked (down to the wire inside.) Does this necessitate having to replace the entire extension? Also, What is the best way to keep the trailer mechanisms in good shape, wd40? Thanks.
I think you are right Scott. I took it for granted that it was a catalina. I went to check it out yesterday. It's a 1988 Capri, in nearly new condition, and to my novice eye, I'd have thought I was looking at a laser. I ended up telling the owner that I'd take it and he's delivering it...
There is a used capri w/ trailer in the paper and I'm told that it is very similar to, and rigged the same, as a laser. Any comments/concerns as to whether this is the case?
Fortunately, my first experience on a laser (yesterday) was in 7-8 knot winds. If it had been any breezier, I know I would have gone in the drink multiple times because I couldn't seem to coordinate what to do with the tiller extension (never used one before, and it kept getting in my way) and...
I appreciate everyone's feedback. Now, regarding the time that you couldn't get back in...(I can see that happening to me) What'd you do? I thought for sure I'd still be glued to the side of the 420 when we docked.
