...so basically, if it floats; DRINK. If it kinda floats; DRINK. If it sinks; well I was probably gonna have a drink if it sinks:) Thanks for the suggestion about the sail. It's my only "known" concern. At the end of the season I am going to invest in a new, laser regulation, sail. By then...
...well any competitive racing will be very low key this season. Probably only a bit of sailing club stuff. Is there a problem with folding up the sails with the battens still in? Remembering that my sail is poor condition and likely to be replaced...
Thanks. I've used the dacron repair tape on two rips in the sail. Still got some left so I might patch the batten pockets up with it, is that what you meant? It doesn't matter that I can't get the battens out does it?
Nice to see another Oxfordshire based sailor. Which club are with...
After some repair jobs I'm finally ready to put my 1970s Laser into the Atlantic in Cornwall, UK at the end of this week. Thanks to all who have spent the time to answer my nooby questions. You've been an invaluable resource and I can't tell you how excited I am.
From experience can anyone...
Hi Phil. At 6'6"/230lbs you should sail the full rig. That's not a personal preference on my part but manufacturer recommended. Your daughter on the other hand would suit the radial.
As has already been said, the mast step issue is indeed a problem that gets a lot of air time but in...
Thanks all, the Rooster hikers do seem pretty popular, reckon I will sort myself out with a pair. I wonder if there is a stockist near me so I can try the sizes...?!
...I would be interested to hear what you think of the Rooster Hikers in general as I also will be buying a pair. I've got my eye on the Gill Pro hikers aswell.
Oddly that's pretty much exactly what I had in mind in terms of doing it from the rear (ahem!). My biggest concern is the flipping procedure, can't envisage having the strength to do it unless it's done on the launching trolley.
Yeh, Millz's slideshow was especially useful and gave me a fewideas about how to car-top my boat singlehandedly. I will have to mount mine from the rear (ahem!), anyone have any good ideas about hwo I could do that on my own?
Maude. My first laser, bought 2 weeks ago from a sailing club where it had been rotting in a hedge. She's a 1970s (68710) model with Sail repaired, given a damn good wash, some new rigging bits, needs some gel coat fixing and ready to go for sea trials over the next few weeks. I am uber...
My boat is wider than my rack. I haven't car topped it yet but intend to do so for a lengthy road trip. Has anyone got a pic they could show me of a car topped laser with launch trailer and masts all secured etc? I could do with some hints!
Both rips are well in the foot area, about 8" from the bottom seam of the sail. Since my mum's offered her services I might get her to stitch them anyway.
