Thanks, I'll give the tape a try. I have nothing to lose. I'll let you know if it holds.

    Torn Sail

Hey all, ARGH! On my first outing of the year I tore my sail. I'm pretty sure it's because it must have been pinched by the upper and lower mast sections and then tore when I tightened the cunningham. Anyone ever repair this kind of damage? I don't race competitively and this is just a...

Opinion please. How much repair might be needed?

Here's a silly follow-up to my repair question. I just assumed that it was normal but my boat did not have a the bailer cover seen here: http://www.laserforum.org/know/index.php?title=Bailer_install A previous owner seems to have just removed it and siliconed the screw hole. This is...

Opinion please. How much repair might be needed?

Again, thanks. I've never worked with fiberglass and it does make me nervous a little. But I'm pretty handy and have done far more complicated and risky repairs with success. I will however have to do some fiberglassing work inside the cockpit to make a new seat for the drain. How many...

Opinion please. How much repair might be needed?

Hi BP, I get it. I saw the 2 links in a recent thread but wasn't quite sure why go through all that hoopla inside the boat. So the cockpit is attached at 3 points or in my case 2 (maybe?). Is there an easier way to reduce movement at the bailer without cutting more ports? I don't feel any...

Opinion please. How much repair might be needed?

Thanks Corolla, Seems so simple when you put it that way. I think reading all the threads on leaks might have confused me more than anything. I thought I might have to cut ports and do glass work on the inside. But I guess as long as the drain is well seated at both ends, the hull should...

Opinion please. How much repair might be needed?

I bought my '79 Laser a few weeks ago and sailed it a few times now. Each time there was lots of water in the hull, so I did a soap test today and found the culprit. It seems to be the bailer hole. See the pictures attached. Bubbles were a plenty both on the bottom and in the cockpit. In...

    Water in hull

Just a quick question about the soapy water test. How do you do it? A bottle of soapy water in a spray can? I got a sililar problem.

Problems going straight, fighting the helm

OK, Lossen the kicker, let out the mainsail, hike out harder or get a radial rig. Got it! I'm going out Sunday, albeit on a calmer lake, but I'll put it all in to play. Seriously considering buying a Radial rig though. I was going to buy a new sail anyways, so I would only need a new...

Problems going straight, fighting the helm

I meant Standard. At least I assume it is. It's a 1979. If I had the choice, I'd have a radial but there isn't exactly a plethora of used boats to choose from, especially not radials in my price range.

Problems going straight, fighting the helm

Thanks guys, seems unanimous. My kicker was almost for sure too tight and I do have a little trouble keeping the boat upright. I'm on the lower limit of a regular rig (150lbs). I'll try what you say next time. My sail trim needs a little work too. Thanks.

Problems going straight, fighting the helm

I'm a pretty green sailor and I just recently got my first Laser. I was out the other day in about 8-10kts of wind and 1-2 foot waves. When on a reach I was having to fight the tiller to go straight. I tried moving my weight forward, then back and not much was helping. Can anyone tell this...

Just found this: http://www.roostersailing.com/articles/Info_Sheet_4_Laser_Rigging.html Seems simple and cheap. Any idea what the power ratio is?
