    Problems developing Power

Were you pinching in attempt to point with everyone else? When you are overpowered it is tempting to pinch so as to sail high and depower a bit to keep the boat flat. This is NOT the fast way to sail a laser though, as you're stalled the whole time and side-slipping (making leeway). It sounds...

Southwest laser regattas around New Years?

Hey all, I'm going to be in Santa Barbara for a week surrounding New Years this year. Last time I was there at that time there was a laser regatta going on, so this year I thought I'd look around and see if there is anything I can charter a boat for this year. Unfortunately, I can't seem to...

    tiller wear plate repair

Yesterday I was in the middle of a race and the traveler wear plate on my Laser brand carbon tiller fell off. Luckily I was able to grab it before it fell into the water- question is, what sort of glue should I use to put it back on? It's a carbon/SS interface... Thanks, Matt

    Hydrofoiling Laser

I think that sounds like an awesome idea for a senior design project- I did a senior design project a couple years ago and I'll tell you, only about half the projects my class did worked as advertised, but that wasn't the only criteria for a successful project (time & money constraints & pushing...

    trouble pointing (bad sail?)

Actually in a laser you don't ever want to pinch, except for brief moments when coming up a wave perhaps. Pinching will angle you higher but your boat will sideslip faster. In heavier air it is best to crank the vang, play the main to keep the boat flat, and constantly be feathering up and...

    Installing mast wear plates?

How does Budweiser having a Belgian overhead make Canadian beer suck less? If anything, being Belgian will make Budweiser better. Canadian beer will still taste like cat piss. Also, why would you drink Budweiser when there are millions of cheaper, better cans of PBR waiting to be consumed?

    Installing mast wear plates?

Dear Mr. Murphs, Please accept my humblest apologies. The drama I have created has caused a great disturbance in the forum that I fear will plague my posting days forever. You are not the one whos nuts are numb. It is I who has the frozen undercarraige. With deepest regret and sympathy, Matt

    Installing mast wear plates?

"Lightweight Carbo Disks protect the gelcoat at the mast step base from wear and provide the Wearite Disk with a smooth, flat mating surface for friction-free mast rotation. " You're right, it is easier to find out on my own than asking on this forum. And the APS website didn't cry when I...

    Installing mast wear plates?

And I see you lead by example. By the way, Canadian beer sucks.

    Installing mast wear plates?

Well then which one do you drop in first numbnuts? Since there are two, shouldn't one be fastened to the mast and the other to the step?

    chipped daggerboard

I have a similar chip in the bottom of the trailing edge of my daggerboard. I have some West System 404 High Density Filler lying around, will that work?

    Installing mast wear plates?

I've got a wearite disk and a carbo disk, but the directions on both just say to drop 'em into the mast step, and that's it. Shouldn't one be glued to the mast and one to the bottom of the mast step? How do most people install these things? Thanks.

    Calling all CT laser sailors

I just wanted to inform anyone that's listening that there is a Thursday night series in Westbrook, CT, that started this summer. The first summer series just ended and the next one begins this Thursday. It's a fun crowd but we'd love to see more lasers on the line! The local frostbiting...

    Another trailering question...

For car-topping I just use two ratchets and my Thule Rack- no bow tie-down necessary. I actually use a bow line and my bow eye for holding the front of the dolly to the bottom of the (upside-down) laser. I'm glad this bow eye discussion came up though - I was really pissed the other day when...

    minor gelcoat repairs

I've read posts about doing a full-day, complete hull restoration, but I haven't seen much about filling a few scratches. I've got a 2006 hull with a few minor scratches but I want to get it back to like-new condition, so I picked up the Grey and the Yellow gelcoat along with sandpaper up to...
