Best tip I ever received for sealing the mast came from Sunfish champ Jeff Linton: open the mast by removing the plastic top and bottom; remove and discard the corks; replace each cork with a racquetball; reattach plastic top and bottom.
Racquetball size is perfect, as is the seal.

I don't see how you could go wrong with an overhand knot in a bight (which is pretty much what you would have tied for purchase if you didn't have the metal thimble). Just snug it up to hold the thimble and you should be good to go.

Seitech has two new collapsible dolly models, one for canoe, the other for kayak. Unlike the popular model designed for the Sunfish, these new models are axle-only, with no tongue or handle. They strap, instead, around the boat, and the bow becomes the handle. Might be a bad fit for a 'fish, but...

I'm going to put a new tiller extension "receiver" on an old tiller, which previously had the bolt-on, swiveling wooden extension.

I saw a neat shockcord setup at Midwinters: the cord runs through the "eye" in the boomcap at the tack end of the gaff (the same way the outhaul runs through the eye on the boomcap at the aft end of the boom). And with the middle of the cord up by the tack of the sail, the ends clip or tie...

Even though it was torture for you, your correspondence as a non-participating racer gave a perspective that few on the course could offer (especially those of us in the back of the fleet). It was my only way of knowing what had happened "way up there."
