How to repair broken keel bungee?

My wife and I had a great time sailing our 16.5 at BOOTS on Texoma this past weekend, but our bungee (almost) broke that holds our keel down. The outer casing busted and there were barely a few threads left to hold the keel down! So... those of you that have changed these before, be it the...

Poll: how many adults comfortably on a 14.2

re: 3's for company (comfort level) I absolutely agree that for 4 people the 14.2 is too small. That is why in fact we sold our JY14 (Hunter 140) and now have a Catalina 16.5. We sail on 89,000 acre Lake Texoma which spans into both Texas and Oklahoma and our summers are HOT. It is not...

Poll: how many adults comfortably on a 14.2

How many people can sail together is often a question for any boat. This is even a more important consideration for a smalller boat. How many people can comfortable sail on a 14.2 (not for racing, just for enjoying a day sail) ? solo? 2? 3? 4? more?! Share your opinion and...

    Capri 14.2 vs. Lido 14

A stability and persons-aboard consideration Just my 2 cents worth Don... I sailed a JY14 solo (very similar to the 14.2, Lido & American) for 5 years. When I got married, my wife (who was new to sailing) found the JY14 "quite tippy". She now LOVES the boat we have moved up to, the Catalina...

    Boomkicker Installation

Enjoy your new boomkicker! My wife and I recently put one on our Catalina 16.5. We opted for the model one step up from the one you got but probably didn't need to. However, we still didn't have to drill. Yay! We did have to cut the rods as well. Ours came with two different diameter rods...

    Cleats for my New Boat

I'd sure like to know this too for my 16.5 I usually tie off with my rope traveller on the back, abd thought about using something tied to where the furled jib attaches too. :o

    Sail down, boom up?

boom vang goes right along with the boom kicker Swings with it right inside. Boomkicker holds the boom up, vang holds the boom down. Works great and keeps the dawg-gone boom out of your way when taking the sail down!

    Sail down, boom up?

Exactly. They're quite convenient. :-) I'm going to give my boomkicker its first try tomorrow, Sat. 4/30/05. I'll post how it works tomorrow nite. (Saturday nite.) ~ Les

    Sail down, boom up?

actually the boomkicker goes *inside* the vang My buddy just put one on his 14.2. I have one on my 16.5. Go to Boomkicker.com direct, it will cost you less and take weeks less to get than West Marine. Here's a pic of one on a 14.2 at their site. http://www.boomkicker.com/capri_14.jpg...

    14.2 Expo

14.2 with a TWO HUNDRED pound keel Wow! I had to go verify that at the Catalina site. It's amazing to me that they would put a 200 lb. keel on a 340 lb. boat. Heck, I have nearly that much ballast on my own, and I can put mine on the rail. :D My wife and I previously had a JY14 (no...

    14.2 Expo

14.2 Expo vs. regular 14.2 My first boat being VERY similar to a regular 14.2 (the JY14, now the Hunter 140) I would like to suggest the 14.2 as a first boat over the Expo. Once you learn the basics of sailing you will be so glad you opted for the 14.2 over the Expo. Jib sails (the small...

    reef points in North Texas

Thanks, Dick, RE:adding reef points Thanks for all the suggestions regarding reefing. Not being much of the do-it-yourselfer I think we'll just let a sail place put a reef in for us. I have heard that the Sailrite kit you mentioned is a good one. However, my wife hasn't messed with her...

    reef points in North Texas

Hi folks ~ As we are having chilly weather here right now, I thought it might be a good time to have reef points put in the sail of my Catalina 16.5 (14.2's older brother :o ) Could anyone recommend a sail/sailing outfit in North Texas that does quality work as relates to adding reef...

Greetings from a newbie forum member :)

Hello everyone ~ I hope you don't mind me joining your well established forum. I bought a Catalina 16.5 last spring in New Hampshire and took her home to Oklahoma. There is not an official board for the 16.5, so I'd like to hang around with you. My wife and I previously sailed a JY14...
