    Boom Repair

John ... If you haven't fixed it yet , I have a piece on anodized aluminum tube that is the perfect diameter to sleeve the boom , plus a short piece of boom section if you want it. Let me know how much you want & I'll cut it off and pop it in the post. I'm in Deerfield Beach. As long as you...

    Minifish

The Minifish hull I cut down to make a Classic Moth had exactly the same bright colored factory decals as the one in the photo's above. It also came with its original red , orange , yellow , green & blue factory sail. I was told it was purchased new in 1983 , but interestingly the transom...

    Slippery Cockpit/Footwell

Personally I'd just wash those areas with soapy water , then rinse and repeat several times. It worked for me after bought an older Sunfish that the seller had sprayed all over with silicone based furniture polish. Getting it onto my truck was like having a fight with a giant slippery eel ...

    Slippery Cockpit/Footwell

I realize that it an almost brand new boat , and it obviously shouldn't be slippery like that. Maybe the seller made it even shinier ( and mega-slippy ) by cleaning it with a silicone based polish or wax before you purchased it ?

    Laser Sail on Sunfish

    Apologies if I'm going off topic slightly , but it's funny that you mention foils. There is no rule against it in the Classic Moth class , and one of the Classic Moth sailors put his 1964 McCutcheon Shelly Moth on foils for the 2010 Midwinters ;

    Laser Sail on Sunfish

Thanks BB. The helm was okay , although the rudder blade I used might be a little long. It was a case of in at the deep end this weekend , as it was the Classic Moth National Championships & the first time the boat had been sailed as a Moth. Mid-way through the first race I ended up retiring...

    Laser Sail on Sunfish

I used an old Laser gooseneck. I also used an old Laser plastic gooseneck plug in the base of the mast & I slipped some PVC pipe and a piece of that flexible kitchen chopping board stuff around the mast for a better fit in the mast tube well. I epoxied sleeves into the boom where the fittings...

    Laser Sail on Sunfish

Thanks. It needs a few 'tweaks' , but it's fun and easy to sail.

    Laser Sail on Sunfish

I did a similar project this year with a Minifish. I shortened it to 11' to make it comply with the Classic Moth rules. I made a mast from an old aluminum winsurfer mast , added stays , and used a broken carbon windsurfer mast for a boom. Sunfish racing daggerboard & a dagger shaped rudder...

Did Sunfish make a "Millenium Edition?"

The MX Ray was sold soon after I picked up both boats. I just wanted the Sunfish , but the lady wanted to sell both together.

Did Sunfish make a "Millenium Edition?"

No , sadly I didn't take any pictures when I bought it. I wish I had ! The lady had just inherited the Publix chain of stores. She was having a clear out of all the toys in the boat shed. Supposedly her grandchildren had paddled around on the Sunfish a couple of times , then got bored. The sail...

Did Sunfish make a "Millenium Edition?"

Not sure what that was all about , but it's the one and only time I've had a butler and a maid load a Sunfish onto my truck !

Did Sunfish make a "Millenium Edition?"

Not quite the same , but I had a "Millenium compliant" 2000 version a couple of years ago. Bought it off a rich lady who lives opposite Tiger Woods !

    Humming Noise

Just a thought ; As well as looking for chips on your daggerboard , check to see if it's slightly warped. I had a racing daggerboard that hummed after I left in the back of my truck and the trailing edge warped slightly in the sun. I managed to heat it and get it straight again , and hey-presto...
