Oh, OK. I was imagining a wooden board breaking in half. My teenage son nearly completely turtled yesterday and I was envisioning the daggerboard snapping.
How in the world did the daggerboard break in half? That's one disaster I hadn't considered planning for. Was it in poor condition? Did you hit something? On which axis did it break? What was it made of? Thanks!
Yes, follow the wetsanding instructions. I have a '63 Sunfish that I am fixing up. After doing wetsanding, the gel-coat looks fabulous. I expected it to look OK, but it probably didn't look much better in the showroom 41 years ago!
What if you'd ever lose the port covers and couldn't find exact replacements? I've also had sand unbeknownst get in the threads and make them rough and difficult to remove... might need replacing sometime. Also, mine are getting faded and not too purty... might replace with newer ones. FWIW...

I'm a similar size and, for daysailing/non-racing purposes, I don't think a weight of 230lbs. will be much of a factor. I think the biggest factor is getting 230lbs. back into the cockpit after you capsize. The plus side is you should have absolutely no problem popping the Sunfish...
Look for the HIN (Hull ID #) on the upper starboard corner of the transom... it's kinda embossed. The last two numbers should be the model year. The HIN is also embossed on a hidden location (PM me if you need to know its location... it's supposed to be a secret so that when thieves alter or...

To answer your other question... yes you could rig Minifish with Super rig, but why? :) I have both a Mini & a Super... maybe I'll rig something up and try it! Do you have both, too?
