    Sunfish nose diving?

I find that sailing the boat by the lee works well. When the nose starts to go under, heel more to weather and steer lower rather than higher. Do not let the sail out past 90 degrees though or you get unstable quickly.

    The Rules Thread

There is no difference in the rule definitions or the right of way rules (section 2) between the ISAF rules and those published by US Sailing. The National Authorities are not permitted to change those sections. The prescriptions deal mainly with elegibility and administrative functions. I...

    The Rules Thread

You can download the rules from http://www.sailing.org/racingrules.php You should also look at the casebook which contains interpretations of the rules. You would be overlapped if any part of your hull or equipment was forward of a line perpendicular to the aftmost part of the leading boat...

    Double Trailer Plans or ideas

Our trailer is fairly heavy. 1500 lb capacity 50" frame with 12" wheels. I have trailered with one boat several times and its not been a problem. I also have a smaller lightweight trailer with 8" tires. I wouldn't even consider building a double rig on it. I prefer heavy trailers myself...

    Double Trailer Plans or ideas

You could certainly modify our design, and probably would have to depending on what trailer you build it on. I had no plans to carry more than two boats, so kept the width narrow enough that the arms of the Sitec dollies will fit outside the pair of hulls. You definitely need diagonal bracing...

    Lifejackets Required?

I death rolled my laser some years back and watched it sail away from me on its side. I was very tired and know that life jacket probagly saved my life. While I nearly always wear my life jacket and think its a good idea to do so, I disagree with making in mandatory via the sailing...

    Double Trailer Plans or ideas

I can echo Cindi's comments on getting boats onto rack trailers. In 1983 we had a rack trailer welded up that held 4 Lasers or Sunfish. You had really had to hold the boats on each side to walk them in once one or more boats were on the trailer. Then you had to do some juggling to get your...

    Double Trailer Plans or ideas

I've attached a picture of our double trailer rig. The trailer is good to about 1200#, has 12" tires and the frame is 48" wide. I would not go much smaller for an A frame rig. We have used it for 3 years and have several thousand miles on it now Its not shown here, but the dollies ride on top...

    By the lee

One thing I've noticed is that when sailing by the lee in waves, the bow is not nearly so apt to bury. So often when surfing down a wave and heading into the trough I sail down and not up to get past the next wave.

    Do Sunfish T-Shirts Exist?

Been through this as we have an embroidery company and have made " Sunfish" items from time to time. We did the shirts for the Sunfish Midwinters in Melbourne. The Sunfish image and the word Sunfish are Registered trademarks of Vanguard. You cannot make up and sell shirts with either on them...

    Rudder Cracked Today

Both our rudders split from the pivot bolt and the original pin does nothing to help that. Its too high and too short. I think you need to add a longer rod that is either just above or just below the pivot bolt. Mine is 6inches long and runs almost the full width of the rudder.

    Rudder Cracked Today

Cindy, We broke and repaired the rudders on both our Sunfish the first year and they have not broken again. Basically I opened up the crack as far as possible. In one case it was in two pieces so that was easy. I used West Epoxy for the glue and clamped front to back with 3 pipe clamps but...

    Sunfish tiller?

I looked at mine again yesterday, and it is indeed Ash not Oak. However, having made many oak tillers in the past, some steam bent, I know that it would work just fine.
