    Geezer talk

The Masters ACC's are run under the ILCA "Masters Regatta Guidelines" http://www.laser.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=418&Itemid=268 which provide for rig switching between Standard, Radial, and 4.7 for all competitors. There is no requirement for GGM's to sail in the Radial.

Class Politics The Masters Rig Swapping Experiment

Re: The Masters Rig Swsapping Experiment As a 160 lb Master sailor who sails in many of the bigger events, I don't see the rig swapping rule as a big advantage. In fact, I no longer switch rigs unless it is totally nuking (20-25kts) because its far too easy to get stuck in the radial rig when...

Class Politics ILCA-NA Newsletter missing 1/3 of its District's Reports

Re: NA-ILCA Abandons 1/3 of Its Districts Or...someone from the ILCA-NA office could CALL the District Secretaries in the non-responsive districts. Find out if they even got the email(s). Find out if there is a problem. Listen to what they have to say. Maybe learn something about what's...

    Regattas, what do sailors want?

Having water available on the race course is very important IMHO. In the past year and half, I've done a fair amount of travel to big events and had to charter a Laser for the regatta. None of these boats will have an inspection port or anywhere to store water without tripping over it in the...

    Mainsheet wear

And flip it end for end occasionally, mine always wears out first at the ratchet block area when two blocked upwind.

    Instruments for training

I would recommend attending a sailing clinic or two, or getting some coaching with the $600 instead. My experience from attending six seminars and some private coaching is that it's the best investment you can make in your Laser sailing program. The Velocitek does look like a fun toy I have...

    vang, outhaul, cunni upgrades

Buy the vang upgrade, its the best investment you can make for your Laser. Might be able to save $$ buying only the deck hardware for the outhaul/cunn and building the rest yourself - its pretty easy. Especially if you have some spare blocks, etc. Laying around. The stock lines on the...

Needed: Laser Charter for North Americans in SF

Looking for a Laser charter for the North Americans in San Francisco July 24-27; have had no luck with either Svendsens or West Coast Sailing, now looking for a private charter in the area. Appreciate any help you all can give - I'm not picky, just looking for a decent hull so I can sail in...

Air Travel approved Hard Cases for blades?

Bought this one about a month ago; survived it's first trip to Florida on Southwest just fine. Was hard to find one long enough for my tiller extension. Be sure to buy TSA locks and be prepared for lots of questions about "is there a gun in there". Note also that this case has WHEELS so...

    Intermediate Skills\Racing Schools

I have been to both the Rick White and SailFit (Kurt and Meka Taulbee) seminars and would also recommend either one. I just spent three days training with Kurt in Clearwater; its a great venue offering sailing on either the bay or gulf.

    Wind Breaks Radial vs Full

Having said that, if you are new to the Laser getting your confidence and skill up in the Radial makes a lot more sense than beating yourself up and fighting with the full rig in breeze...

    Wind Breaks Radial vs Full

I'm a 5'9" 150lb Master sailor. If I'm racing in a Masters event where you can switch rigs, I would not go with the Radial against Full Rigs unless I was pretty confident the wind would stay above 15kts. Even at 15kts you are giving up some speed downwind unless the waves are huge.

News 2008 St Francis Spring Dinghy Regatta

Tracy, Looks like great fun. Still think there is something wrong with the batten placement on that prototype sail - shouldn't they be perpendicular to the leech of the mainsail? I do like the "speed stripes". Mike S

    Stern line for a Laser
