Central NYS Sailing?

Having moved (back) to central New York State I'm looking for a place to launch my newly fixed Laser (new mast step) and do some sailing. Lots of lakes in the area, but where to launch for a car topper? I've done some scouting and it looks like the boat launches are wonderful for bigger boats on trailers, with plenty of gravel and blacktop right up to the water, but not very friendly for a Laser (or canoe for that matter).

The yacht clubs are nice but I'm not ready to join one just yet, maybe next year. Any suggestions from fellow central New York Laser sailors? I'm near Syracuse, so the eastern Finger Lakes, Oneida, and Onondaga are in easy reach. Maybe a lakeside park you know about where I can get the car close to the water?

Many thanks!

You can launch a Laser on Cazenovia Lake off the Rt. 20 parking area at the south end of the lake just off Rt. 92. The water there is somewhat shallow but th rest of the lake is a good small boat sailing venue. I live on the lake and have sailed Sunfish here since 1984.

Perfect, thank you Alan. I know the spot, just down the road from where I am in Manlius. My Dad was a champion Sunfish sailor from Keuka Lake, and I remember him talking about a regatta on Cazenovia lake - this would be in the late 60's. I believe his trophy from that race is among his others back in Penn Yan. It will be nice to sail on Cazenovia - I was probably his crew then but either I was too young then to remember it (mixed in with all the others) or I'm too old now to get my mind to recall it! The Laser I have is one he bought in Ithaca in 1974. Thanks again for the tip!
