Training Sessions

Ok I need a few suggestions on ideas for a training session Im running.

3 or 4 youth radials at club level (trying to get them to try in other events this year)

The idea of the session is to teach them to teach themselves
So the aim of this is that they can go away from the 2 sessions and practice themselves.

Any drills people would recommend?
Thanks

Set up a really short (I mean tiny) course and run continuous starts and races. The course must be doable in less than five minutes so that they are there for the next start. I use a small offset course. I sit in the coach boat (mid leg as the committee boat) and do the starts. With a megaphone I shout encouragement, tips, critiques, tactics and general play by play, especially at the start. Lots of fun and very productive.

have them learn the rabbit start teach them how to make marks out of string a wieght and a ball and tell them how to make there own corse

teach them to make their own courses and rabbit starts are good things. a drill that my coach did ALOT this summer had a starting line too short to fit all the boats across and was running a 1-minute repeating start sequence (start is also 1 min. warning for next start). this drill helped us all alot. also, you should teach them to speed-test so that they can critique each other.
