I have an old laser (52816 as sail number). How can I identify the year of cnstruction?
Is there a table to associate sail number to the year of construction?
Thanks for you help,
Leo

This comes up frequently, and I saved this from a previous discussion. I'm not sure who compiled the data.

That's the same list... and it's been copied a lot, I just found it even on a Hong Kong club's site.

I think I have seen one with pre-1977 and post-2007 numbers, though. Will post a link if/when found.

Bought my first Laser in the UK in October 1977 with the number 52494. Laser numbers were issued in blocks to each manufacturer world-wide to ensure that the boat-numbers in one region were not substantially out of kilter with the other regions. Your boat is likely to be late 1977 - early 1978.

Couldn't resist making a couple of graphs.

Nice!
Now I wonder how many by LP and how many by PSA (as of now/2016).
A wild guess would be 4:1?

how many by LP and how many by PSA
Taking the total numbers from the ILCA yearbook and applying the longtime global trend from torrid's first graph regionally, one gets these, I think realistic figures:

PSJ: 3 %, max.
PSA: 10 %, max.
LP: the rest.

If anyone knows any real numbers, let's hear them. But I'd be surprised if PSA built significantly more than 200 boats a year.
